Message from the Candidate

Howdy friends and neighbors in Anderson, Shelby, and Spencer counties! I am beyond excited to announce my candidacy for your next District Court Judge!

These past few years have been difficult on everyone in our community. Covid suddenly dismantled long-standing institutions and procedures in nearly every industry, and the justice system is no exception. But with every challenge comes an opportunity to grow, learn, and improve. We now have an incredible opportunity to streamline our procedures, renew our commitment to community service, and re-engage one another in the spirit of cooperation. As District Court Judge, establishing a culture of good faith collaboration and open communication within the walls of the courthouse will be one of my main priorities. I will be intentional in creating opportunities for collaboration between the many individuals, departments, and agencies who are involved in the administration of Justice. I will encourage and maintain an open door policy for officials and community partners to openly discuss issues affecting the Court docket. As your next District Court Judge, I will not forget that the position is ultimately one of service to the community.

One of the most devastating issues we have faced in recent years has been the opioid crisis. Nearly all individuals who end up charged with a major felony crime in Circuit Court arrives having had several previous interactions with a District Court Judge. Traditional methods used in District Court have not been effective in preventing the escalation of criminal activity. Currently there are no Judicial led and administered addiction intervention programs utilized in our District Courts. As District Court Judge, I will lead the effort to explore additional solutions to the problems plaguing our community whether they be community based or institutional (inside the jail).

Our community has lost trust in the integrity, impartiality, and fairness of our judiciary. As a former prosecutor and the proud wife of retired LEO, I believe strongly in consequences. As a mother, I know that consequences for unacceptable behavior are necessary to grow and learn. However, punishments and rulings should always be delivered while simultaneously respecting the dignity of every individual that stands before the bench. No one entering our courtrooms should ever have cause to doubt that they will be treated fairly.

I have spent the better part of twenty years as a daily litigator in our local courtrooms handling everything from minor traffic offenses to felony murder. I bring unmatched litigation experience with me to the Bench. I’ve been on both sides of the aisle and thus have a unique perspective regarding the things that we get right, as well as areas ripe for improvement. I’m running for Judge not because I need to be a Judge, but because I believe our community deserves an experienced, honest, and fair Judge. I have a spotless record of ethical dealing as an attorney and will continue conducting myself that way as Judge. I am more than ready and excited for this next challenge and to continue serving the incredible people of Shelby, Spencer, and Anderson Counties. If you support our mission to bring experienced leadership to District Court, consider joining our team! And if you have ideas or would like to discuss proposed solutions please reach out. We want to hear from you!
