A willingness to engage in honest dialog and good faith collaboration are essential traits of an effective leader. Although Judges enjoy nearly unlimited discretion in the operation of their courtroom, there are countless agencies/individuals who are essential to propel a court case forward to a timely resolution. For instance, the Judge cannot proceed on a case absent the presence of counsel, a clerk to keep the records, and/or the accused. In any given case, a District Judge may be required to rely upon the availability and cooperation of agencies/individuals such as the Sheriff’s Department (court security), Clerk’s Office (record keeper), Corrections (transport of inmates), County Attorney, Public Defender’s Office, and AOC interpreter Services, just to name a few. Too often, the considerations and challenges of these essential community partners is not taken into account or dismissed entirely. As District Court Judge, Amanda’s door will be open to leaders throughout the community to help improve the efficiency and efficacy of our Court system. A judge should set the tone of cooperation and service, and Amanda plans to do just that.

As District Court is truly the people’s court, it should offer real solutions to the community’s issues. As Judge, Amanda will be a leader in developing new strategies and intervention programs to combat crime in the community. She will remain receptive to suggestions on how our Court System can better serve the citizens of our community. At a minimum, open communication is needed to begin solving the many challenges faced by those working within the system and our community at large. As Judge, Amanda will encourage and initiate opportunities for leaders within the justice system and community partners to collaborate in the interest of justice.
